While his true and prodigal calling lies in Astrology, Iyeh'li L'Aphelie has been working as a freelance portrait painter in the Holy See of Ishgard after gaining his independence from the noble household who took him in as a refugee of the calamity. His flirty, at times carefree behaviour belies a calculating personality who has learned to leverage all his charms in order to achieve his goals.

Keeper of the Moon

Iyeh'li was born as the third son to Iyeh of the Nevera clan who made their home close by the Sharlayan settlement in the Dravanian Hinterlands in times before the Calamity turned rolling hills and lush forests to harsh tundra and a bountiful environment to an uninhabitable wasteland.
Initially, the Keepers and the Sharlayans' relationship was one of cooperation and learning. The Nevera clan provided the settlers with insight into the surrounding area and their own customs, and in turn received the Sharlayan knowledge on the heavens, how to call on their healing powers and how to utilise their movement to telegraph events yet to come.Even as the settlement gradually stagnated and eventually became abandoned, the astrologians of the Nevera clan ensured for its continued safety and prosperity. Not even they, however, could foresee the Calamity. Had it been only for the sudden frost, the band of Keepers might well have managed to retain their grounds, to adapt to the changes that had overcome their homelands - but with the cold came the dragons, and in their wake followed chaos and destruction.Though already able to call upon the stars with an inherent ease, Iyeh'li was still a child when his clan was forced to flee their territory and begin a long and perilous journey eastward to seek refuge within the walls of Ishgard. The track claimed so many lives that of a family of six, only Iyeh'li, his mother and younger sister Ehwe reached the gates of judgement.

Noble Ward

Life in the Brume was hardly kind on a sole mother with two maturing children, and so when the opportunity presented itself for Iyeh'li to be taken as a ward (to wit: an exotic pet) to one of the minor noble houses of the Holy See, his mother did not hesitate to make the choice for him. The young keeper grew up under the ever-scornful eyes of his new "family", who gave him only what education might positively reflect on themselves when demonstrated at social gatherings. He was given the mocking epithet l'aphelie – the aphelion, a Keeper of the Moon, far from the sun.Even so, the boy's outstanding attunement with the constellations was obvious enough to earn him a place at the Athenaeum Astrologicum, where he was taught the Ishgardian variant of the art of astrology. Showing similar promise in his visual arts classes, Iyeh'li was given all he needed to shape himself into a capable painter and prodigious interdisciplinary astrologian with a connection to the heavens second to none – yet for much of his youth and young adulthood, he remained a bird in a cage, learning above all else to smile and bow, to curtsy and simper and make use of what sway his agreeable face held in any which way, all to retain a semblance of agency.

Prodigy of Stars and Canvas

After Iyeh'li's patron family released him from his obligations following a generational change, the Keeper tried at first to find his surviving family, but could not. He found, instead, a whole district of starving outcasts. With the last allowance afforded to him, he bought a studio in the Empyreum and began taking the coin of private customers in exchange for painted portraits, unveiled fortunes and, in select cases, physical intimacies in addition to either.By combining shrewd manipulation, hard-earned social sway and genuine talent, Iyeh'li has managed to make something of a name for himself in the upper echelons of Ishgardian society, whether he is talked about with admiration or disgust – Iyeh'li hardly cares which one. As long as his name remains in the mouths of the upper crust, business remains good, as many charitable institutions in the Brume might be able to attest if they knew the name behind the regular anonymous donations.

Prodigious Diviner {Uncommon} – Iyeh'li's unique mastery over the constellations is less well known across social classes, though remembered by those who remember his erstwhile noble patrons parading him around as a curiousity, a "civilised savage" from soiree to soiree.

Brume Philanthropist {Rare} – Through extensive research and no small amount of wit, an interested mind may have succeeded that Iyeh'li anonymously donates a reasonable amount of his income to charitable organisations in the Brume.
